Had a hunter this weekend who shot 3x springbok and one gemsbok with his Sako Forrester .308W and 165 gr Federal Fusion ammunition.
The photos are of the entrance and exit wounds through the shoulders and top of the heart of the gemsbok. Perfect shot as it cut the top of the heart and two of the three main arteries).
183 yards. The gemsbok went down at the shot, got up, struggled a half turn around, and then fell down dead three yards from where he took the bullet.
Look at the entry and exit holes - exemplary performance as one expects from a bonded core bullet and again showing why the .308W is by far the most sought
after hunting calibre by South African big game hunters.
Entrance hole on right low shoulder. It broke the humerus bone -
And then made the typical calibre++ hole through a rib -
In perfect fashion and shot placement cut open the top chambers of the heart-
Broke an opposite rib-
Broke the opposite humerus bone and made a 4x calibre size exit hole with less than one pound of meat damage. Perfect performance by the hunter, the rifle, the .308W cartridge and the Fusion bullet.
Added a photo of the gemsbok heart above.
